Hydraulic steering system e.g. for wheeled appliance

The hydraulic steering system has a priority valve (3) with outputs to the steering, to secondary hydraulic systems (6) and to a pressure control line (11) which is connected to a pressure control line (18) of the steering control. The pressure control line returns fluid to the sump via a dump valve (31) in series with a special two position valve (32) which connects a flow restriction (34) into the return line to even out pressure peaks. The system handles pressure peaks caused by obstructions to the wheel steering. The flow restriction valve and the dump valve isolate the steering wheel from reaction pressures and provide an improved steering control.
