The radio apparatus (1) has a display (5) and an operating device (10,11,12). The display is touch sensitive, and by touching predetermined areas of the display device functions of the apparatus are called up depending on an operating mode of the apparatus and the information is then shown on the display. Preferably the display device is divided into at least one area for activating functions and at least one area for displaying data. The display may have an automatically activated first switch symbol. Activation of further symbols of the display may then follow by actuating or touching the displayed symbol.
