摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To get the most out of individual abilities of detection areas, to sufficiently secure the number of pixels every divided areas and also to enable accumulation control in unit of a divided area by arranging areas to be set while dividing photoelectric transducing means into plural areas to be staggered arrangements with each other in the area of a photographic picture screen. SOLUTION: In a focus detector capable of two dimensional and continuous focus detections over the wide range on the photographic picture screen or an observed screen, respective focus detection areas to be set by dividing plural photoelectric transducting means being light receiving parts and having consecutive and two-dimensional extents into plural areas are made so as to become staggered arrangements with each other. Moreover, in the dividing of the plural photoelectric transducing means, upper and lower areas and left and right areas including the center of the photographic picture screen are made to be divided into odd numbers and divided areas are set in an axial symmetry in the upper and lower areas and the left and right areas including the center. This device is constituted of a photoelectric transducer 11 having a silver salt-contg. film 2, a semitransmission main mirror 3, reflection mirrors 4, 6, 10 and area sensors 11-1, 11-2 or the like.
