FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention specially relates to oiled sludges from rolling production and consists in heating furnace laboratory and material contained therein in countercurrent with smoke fumes, removal of moisture, sublimation, and burning out of sludge oils. Oil-containing sludges are continuously fed into loading end of furnace simultaneously with gas- treatment return water from rotary furnace, sludge to water proportion being controlled from condition of maintaining temperature of effluent smoke fumes in the range 100-400 C. Temperature and humidity of treated sludge from the furnace is controlled by pouring gas-treatment return water onto it in furnace laboratory at the distance 1-2 its diameter from discharge end. In another embodiment of invention, in loading and discharge ends of furnace, sludge being treated is poured in by sludge material from gas treatments of rotary furnace, agglomeration, blast-furnace and/or steel-smelting productions in any proportion, intake of each being from 0 to 100% and content of solids 10-50%. In both versions, internal fuel consumption per one burner after oil vapors are inflamed is reduced to the level providing maximum heating of sludge within the range 500 to 900 C.
