At the apparatus at a loom, to form a leno selvedge, the rotating body (60) has at least one illumination (65,66) near the guides (63,64) for the leno yarns (20,30), with a controlled periodic lighting action. Preferably the illumination is provided by a light emitting diode (65,60). The rotating body (60) has at least two diagonally opposed arms (61,62), with eyelets (63,64) at their ends to guide the leno yarns (20,30). A least one arm (61,62) has an illumination at the end. The illumination (65,66) gives light on the axis direction (200) of the rotating body at the body. The power supply for the lighting (65,66) is delivered through a slip ring at the rotating body, without contact. The control for the periodic lighting is a rotary angle register with a pulse transmitter, connected electrically to the lighting (65,66).
