The electric capacitor is built into a metallic, preferably rectangular housing. The capacitor has a switch off safety mechanism arranged in the housing. It disconnects the capacitor when the pressure in the housing increases by an outer current circuit. The switch off safety mechanism is formed as a tension locking mechanism. This has a taught spring (8) as a drive element and is locked by a locking pin (9). The tension locking mechanism is formed as a plug system. This includes a metallic plug pin (1) arranged in a metallic plug socket (2) and is actuated by the spring (8). The plug socket (2) is electrically connected to the outer capacitor terminal (4). The plug pin (1) is conductively connected to a capacitor electrode. A contact spring element (3) is arranged in the plug socket (2).
