A musical rhythm teaching aid comprises a plurality of pieces A-G, each representing the duration of a note or rest. The relative sizes of the pieces A-G correspond to the relative duration of the note or rest, and smaller duration pieces are combinable to form larger duration pieces. For example, quaver piece F and two semiquaver pieces G combine to give a piece the size of crotchet piece E. Similarly, dotted minim piece B has the same shape as the combination of minim piece C and crotchet piece E. Optionally, piece A can be a base which receives the various other pieces, where the base represents at least one note, rest or a number of beats, and the relevant pieces B-G are the correct-sized fractions of the base. The base is formed from stiff card or plastic and the other pieces are formed from more flexible card or plastic. The pieces may be in contrasting colours, and may have a note of certain duration on one side and the corresponding rest on the reverse.
|
