PURPOSE:To reduce a wasteful power consumption by stopping the application of a predetermined voltage to stepping motors by the detection of the absence of printing paper in a printer. CONSTITUTION:If printing paper is present in a printer having the need for holding the stop states of motors 11-13, i.e. if the printing paper is disposed on a position facing a PE sensor 28, a holding voltage is applied to each of the motors 11-13 to hold the stop states of the motors 11-13. On the other hand, if printing paper is absent in the printer having no need for holding the stop states of the motors 11-13, i.e. if the printing paper is not disposed on the position facing the PE sensor 28, a holding voltage is not applied to each of the motors 11-13, whereby the stop states of the motors 11-13 are not held. |
