The shelter consists of a rectangular chamber with walls and a roof made from sandwich panels (7) having a honeycomb core between outer (8) and inner (9) skins of sheet aluminium. The floor (3) of the shelter is made from a sandwich panel with a core of polymer foam or a honeycomb structure. The wall panels have an aluminium honeycomb core some 50 mm thick, weighing about 50 kg/m<3>, with inner and outer aluminium sheet skins 0.3-1.0 mm thick, while the floor panel has, from the inside outwards, an aluminium sheet skin, a plywood sheet about 5 mm thick, a polyethylene foam core weight about 45 kg/<3>m, and an outer skin of aluminium sheet, the two aluminium skins being some 0.3-1 mm thick. The outer walls can also have protection against thermal flash in the form of an epoxide-based film some 500-600 mu thick.
