The collector advances on two wheels (13), belt-driven (15, 16) from the engine (11), which also drives a fan (32b). Air entering the fan carries clippings from ground level (19, 24, 31c). A rotary front brush (21, 22) also belt-driven (17) assists. Cutting blades (35) on vertical spindles within the fan rotor (32c) cooperates with a comb (36, 37) fixed across the outlet, to shred the clippings, which continue via an inclined duct (46) into a chamber (41) supported between the operator`s handlebars (12). The air-flow passes round the rim of an inverted cylindrical baffle (43), through a filter (44), into a return duct (45). Airborne material, assisted by turbulence, drops into the detachable (47, 48) collecting bin (42). Returning air (45) is injected through the brush cowl (23), helping to clean the bristles (22), before reentering the fan intake (31c).
