PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical frequency divider and the optical sampling device with high sensitivity and excellent time resolution without needing a high intensity pump light while detecting a signal light of low power. SOLUTION: An optical pulse generating means 1 generates an optical pulse whose wavelength is equal to a wavelength of a signal light. The spectral width and dispersion of the optical pulse are adjusted by a spectrum control means 2 and a dispersion control means 3 and the result is superimposed on a specific bit of the signal light by a delay control means 9 and the optical pulse are given to an optical hybrid 8 with the signal light. Then an output proportional to the level of the bit superimposed on a local oscillation optical pulse is obtained via balanced optical receivers 5-1, 5-2, low pass filters 10-1, 10-2, square circuits 6-1, 6-2 and an adder 7. |
