The present invention provides a phenylalanine derivative represented by general formula (I), [wherein R<1> is H or an alkyl group, R<2> is H, an alkyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a phenylalkyl group or the like, R<1> and R<2> being able to be taken together to represent an alkylene group which may contain O or N between adjacent carbon atoms of the carbon chain, or a phthaloyl group, R<3> is OR<4>, N(R<5>)-R<6> or NHCH(R<7>)(CH2)nCOOR<8> (R<4>, R<5>, R<6>, R<7> and R<8> are as defined in the specification], a salt thereof, their optically active substances or coordination compounds, and a novel fungicide for fruit gardening containing any of them as an active ingredient.
