In a lap roll winding machine (1), the wound lap roll (7) rolls on a guide (16,17) from the winding position (P1) to a delivery position (P2). The rolling path is structured in relation to the rolling path length (L) so that at least at one section, and pref. the first half of the guide, forced air is between the surface (9) of the wound lap roll and the guide to soften the contact, as it rolls from the winding position (P1) to the delivery position (P2).
