The automatic method for putting wicker wire coverings on bottles consists of forming a stack of flattened coverings. The two neighbouring lower wire ends (6) are joined together to ensure mechanical continuity of the different coverings constituting the stack. The lower meshes of each covering are successively separated to provide an opening giving access to each covering interior. A mandrel (17) is engaged successively in each mesh opening to give the covering the shape of the bottle (19a) on which it is to be placed. The mandrel is then extracted from the covering and the bottle engaged in the shaped cover. The bottle is then rotated about its axis, thus twisting the lower wires and connecting them together, and the cover applied against the bottle surface. The lower parts of the wires which pass underneath are then cut.
|
