Thiazolemethine dyes of the formula <IMAGE> where R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, C1-C8-alkyl with or without substitution, C3-C4-alkenyl, C5-C7-cycloalkyl, phenyl or tolyl, or are together with the nitrogen atom joining them together a heterocyclic radical, R3 is hydrogen, halogen, C1-C8-alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, substituted or unsubstituted benzyl, cyclohexyl, thienyl, hydroxyl or C1-C8 -monoalkylamino, and Q is the radical of an acidic-CH compound, are useful in nonlinear optics.
