Friction drive for pedestrian-controlled vehicle

A pedestrian-controlled motorised vehicle has a friction drive (20) between the motor and wheels or rollers that can propel the vehicle in either direction. It consists of a truncated conical pinion (16) driven by the motor shaft (21). Its rubber friction surface bears against the upper drive cone to the axle (5). Moving the arm (15) downwards disconnects the upper drive (18). Further movement downwards brings the pinion into contact with the lower cone (19) to rotate the output shaft (5) in the opposite direction. A variation on this design enables a degree of speed control to be exercised.
