PURPOSE: To obtain the subject high-purity compound. CONSTITUTION: A methyl isobutyl ketone solution of the objective 1,3-di-(2- hydroxy-2-propyl)benzene is obtained by hydrogenating reduction of a stock liquor, i.e., a methyl isobutyl ketone solution of 3-(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)cumene hydroperoxide containing both 3-acetylcumene hydroperoxide and 3-acetyl-(2- hydroxy-2-propyl)benzene as impurities. In this case, the hydrogenating reduction is performed by using a fixed bed reactor packed with a palladium-carrying catalyst having 0.001-0.05wt.% of palladium concentration. |
