PURPOSE: To widen the bearing calculating range of an active sonar device against a target without making the distance between the phasing centers of left and right split beams shorter. CONSTITUTION: A correlation processing circuit 6 calculates the correlation CS between the split beams SBL and SBR of horizontally phasing circuits 3 and 4 for left and right split beams and another correlation processing circuit 7 or 8 calculates the correlation CFL or CFR between the full beam FB of a horizontal phasing circuit 5 for full beam and the right or left split beam SBL or SBR. A phase difference detecting circuit 9 for split beam detects the phase differenceϕS in the correlation CS and a phase difference detecting circuit 10 or 11 for full beam detects the phase differenceϕFL orϕFR in the correlation CFL or CFR. An azimuth calculating circuit 12 calculates the azimuthθof a target signal from the phase differencesϕS andϕFL orϕFR.
