PURPOSE: To constitute an inexpensive liquid display by suppressing the occurrence of flickers. CONSTITUTION: Based on P (P: an integer of 2 or more) reference voltages, the liquid crystal display impresses Q (Q: an integer and Q>P) driving voltages on a liquid crystal display panel. In the case where the Q driving voltages in the m-th field and the ones in the (m+1)-th field are made to be V[1, m], V[2, m],..., V[Q, m] and V[1, (m+1)], V[2, (m+1)],..., V[Q, (m+1)] respectively, the driving voltages are set to hold equation (1): V1[x, m]≠V[x, (m+1)], equation (2): V[y, m]-V[(y+1), m]≠V[(y+1), m]-V[(y+2), m] and equation (3): V[y, (m+1)]-V[(y+1), (m+1)]≠V[(y+1), (m+1)]-V[(y+2), (m+1)], and the potential differences between the fields are made to be small to conduct high- quality display, where x=1, 2,..., Q; y=1, 2,..., (Q-2).
