PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for producing medicines, agrochemicals, various functional materials, etc., by reacting a mercaptan derivative in the presence of a Lewis acid. CONSTITUTION: A mercaptan derivative of formula I [R<1> is a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon or a (substituted) aromatic heterocyclic ring] [e.g. 2- mercaptoacetic acid furfuryl ester) in the presence of preferably 0.001-1 equivalent of a Lewis acid (e.g. zinc chloride, lithium perchlorate or aluminum trichloride) in an inert solvent at -78 to 150 deg.C to give the objective compound of formula II. |
