An impeller (10) has a hub (12) with a part spherical portion (22) between front and rear faces. A plurality of blades (11a) are attached to the hub (12), each blade (11a) having a root portion (16) complementarily configured to the spherical portion (22). Adjacent blades (11a) define passageways therebetween, the passageways converging between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. The hub (12) can comprise two relatively rotating portions, with the blades (11a) attached to each portion, the relative rotation of the hub portions varying the pitch of the blades (11a).
