Lamp system having protective cover

The system includes a light source containing a number of individually controllable light segments for erasing selected portions of the charged photoconductive surface. A lens member is used for allowing light rays to be uniformly propagated from the light source to the photoconductive surface. The lens member includes a number of individual lens segments corresp to selected segments of the number of individually controllable light segments. An optically transmissive protective cover is provided for preventing contamination of the lamp system to maintain uniform its light output. The light source includes a test patch generating light segment for generating a test patch on a selected portion of the charged photoconductive surface.
