The process of evaporating, pyrolysing and gasifying waste is carried out in a single apparatus. Evaporation is carried out in a plurality of stages. The waste is heated by the passage of steam through a heat exchanger, the steam being provided by water vapour evaporated from waste during a previous stage of evaporation. Pyrolysing the evaporated waste generates pyrogas which is burned of as it is generated. During gasification, watergas is generated by introducing water vapour into the heated, pyrolysed waste. The watergas is then utilised to heat the waste during pyrolysis and gasification. The apparatus can easily be adapted to process either liquid or solid waste. |
