An element (2,2a,2b) of a vehicle to be identified is characterised in that it has a mark (4) in the form of several surfaces (41-4n) having a compsn. different to that of the element. An appts. for identifying a vehicle comprising at least one element conforming to the above disclosure is also claimed and comprises: (i) a means for detection (5) without contact with the vehicle for detecting the mark (4); and (ii) a means for comparing a digital signal (MC) produced by the detection means as a function of the detected mark with reference signals (MR) respectively associated with marks of vehicles being looked for. Further claimed is the marking appts. for producing the above claimed element on a vehicle, having a means for depositing, in a reproducible way, a mark in the form of a metallic deposit on the element of the vehicle, the metallic deposit having a contour, dimensions and compsn. particular to the vehicle, the deposit compsn. being different to that of the element. |
