A refractory nozzle brick for a ladle has an internal cylindrical hollow space 3 of annular cross-section extending around and from substantially end to end of a flow passage 2. The hollow space 3 may be filled with air or may be extended to open at the downstream end 5 of the nozzle 1 so that it can be filled with insulating material 8 e.g. granular fireclay, silica, glass wool, asbestos or powdered silicates and then closed by a suitably shaped cover 9. The nozzle may be made of fireclay containing various constituents such as sillimanite, corundum, magnesite, chrome ore or zircon. |
