The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymer sulphides which is characterised in that compounds containing sulphoxide linking groups of the formula (I> -[(Ar<1>)n-X)]m-[(Ar<2>)i-Y)]j-[(Ar<3>)k-Z)]l-[(Ar <4>)o-W)]p- (1> in which the symbols and indices have the following meanings: Ar<1>, Ar<2>, Ar<3> and Ar<4> are identical or different arylene systems having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, W, X, Y and Z are identical or different -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -CO2-, alkylene or alkylide groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably 1 to 4 carbon atoms, where at least one linking group from W, X, Y or Z must be an -SO- group, n, m, i, j, k, l, o and p are identical or different and are 0 or an integer 1, 2, 3 or 4, where their sum must be at least 2, are treated a) thermally or b) in the presence of active hydrogen or c) photochemically and reduced to the corresponding sulphides. <IMAGE> |
