<p>PURPOSE:To enable a motorized wheelchair to climb up stairs and to climb over steps by a mechanism comprising a main spur gear fixedly mounted on a main shaft, a spur gear and a sprocket fixedly combined with the front wheel of a front wheel unit, a sprocket fixedly combined with the rear wheel of the front wheel unit, and a chain extended between the sprockets. CONSTITUTION:A main spur gear 11 is fixedly mounted on a man shaft 1, a spur gear 5 and a sprocket 6 are fixedly combined with the front wheel 3 of a front wheel unit so that the spur gear 5 is engaged with the main spur gear 11, a sprocket 7 is fixedly combined with the rear wheel 4 of the front wheel unit, and the sprockets 6 and 7 are interlocked by a chain. When the front wheel 3 collide against a step, a lifting force acts on the front wheel 3 to turn the front wheel unit on the main shaft 1 by a moment and the rear wheel 4 drives the front wheel 3 to make the front wheel 3 climb over the step. A seat 16 is held on a movable arm 17 pivotally joined to the middle of the lower part of a body plate 18. When climbing up or down a slope, steps or stairs, the operation of a direct-acting cylinder actuator is controlled according to a signal provided by an inclination sensor so that the seat 16 may be kept in a horizontal position and the position of the center of gravity may not change to enhance stability and safety.</p> |
