PURPOSE:To suppress whitening of the core surface of an optical fiber, to decrease transmission loss of light, and to introduce formyl groups to the core surface of an optical fiber easily and industrically advantageously by oxidizing alkenyl groups and introducing formyl groups. CONSTITUTION:The core surface of a resin optical fiber is made react with a compd. expressed by OHC-CH2-R-CH=CH-R' to bond alkenyl groups expressed by -CHCHO-R-CH=CH-R' with the core surface. Then the alkenyl groups are oxidized to introduce formyl groups to the core surface of the resin optical fiber. In formula, R is a straight or branched alkylene group of 1-5 carbon number or single bond, and R' is a hydrogen atom or alkyl group of 1-6 carbon number. As for the resin which constitutes the resin optical fiber, it is necessary that the material has good transmission of light and does not adsorb immune compd. For example, polyacrylate is used. |
