The device described has a housing (12) with an air-intake port and an air-outlet port and to which a support element (30) with apertures (32) and hair-gripping elements (34) is attached. Associated with the support element (30) is a shutter device (36), the support element (30) being disposed in front of the air-outlet port in such a way that it can be swung away from the housing (12). Some of the apertures (32) in the support element (30) can be closed by the shutter device. Swinging the support element (30) away from the air-outlet port is caused by the force exerted on the hair-gripping elements (34) during hair drying or styling.
