PURPOSE:To provide a silicon nitride ceramic structural member having high average strength. CONSTITUTION:This silicon nitride ceramic structural member has <=0.2wt.%, preferably <=0.15wt.% total carbon content in the form of a ceramic member as an end product. This member contains >=95% beta-phase and consists of acicular grains having >=4 aspect ratio and 0.5-3.0mum length and an amorphous grain boundary phase. It is free from defects having >=20mum diameter and has a circular cross section. |
