A scroll centrifuge having a basket/cage combination with apertures (31) and a screen portion (50). The screen portion (50) comprises tungsten carbide ligaments (52) arranged side-by-side and end-to-end on the inside surface of the basket/cage combination to form slots (54). The slots whereof communicate the interior of the basket/cage combination to the exterior.
