The backrest is for a vehicle seat. It has a twin-arm support frame (2) made of fibre-reinforced plastics with the two flexible members (3,4) so joined to each other by a crosspiece (9) and/or a diagonal strut (11) that even with a load on just one of the flexible members, the other flexible member is able to take up part of the load. A seat belt (7) is integrated into one of the flexible members, and provision is made for the addition of a head support. USE/ADVANTAGE - Backrest for seat having high stiffness and strength combined with low weight.
