A long component, e.g. seat rail, consists of a central reinforcing core with an outer plastic cover. The component is mfd. by continuous extrusion and then cut to length. The cut ends are sealed by a plastic cap, pref. welded to the outer cover. A pre-moulded recess in the cap compensates for shrinkage in the plastic cover by taking up the projecting end of the reinforcement. USE/ADVANTAGE - The component can be used as a support, bench rail and has ends which compensate for the cover shrinkage after cutting the length.
