The invention is a method of producing 1-(3-carbamoyl-3, 3-diphenylpropyl)-1-methyl piperidinium bromide, the common spasmolotic preparation of fenpiverinium bromide. The procedure consists of the reaction of 2.2-diphenyl-4-piperidine butanoic amide with methyl bromide in a reaction medium with chlorinated hydrocarbons such as chloroform or dichloromethane or in a medium with alcohols such as methyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol, and the quaternary salt is separated from the solution in the presence of water by the addition of suitably selected solvents in which the solubility of the salt is lower than in the reaction medium.
