PURPOSE:To provide softened pulp having quality similar to or better than that of dry pulp by means of mechanical processing of slush pulp without using dry pulp and a softener. CONSTITUTION:Unbeaten, unbleached kraft pulp of 3% pulp density made from coniferous material is dewatered into 35% pulp density by a screw press used in the first process and is then subjected to mechanical kneading while being exerted with a compressing force by a disperser used in the second process, so that softened pulp having a softness of 10, 11g/10cm is obtained. The softness of pulp serving as an example for comparison (not subjected to the first and second processes) is 17.1g/10cm. |
