PURPOSE:To improve apparent display quality by converting a TFT element which is disconnected or shorted to a dark point so as to visually obscure the picture element relating to this element when this picture element is made into a bright point by the disconnection, shorting, etc., of the above-mentioned TFT element. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display device has a TFT substrate 200 which is formed with scanning lines 22, the TFT elements 23 controlled by these scanning lines 22, and the picture element electrodes 24 electrically connected to these TFT elements 23 on a glass substrate 21 and is formed with an oriented film 25 atop the substrate and a color filter substrate 100 which is formed with a black matrix 12 bored with apertures 12a and color filters 13 on a glass substrate 11 and is further formed with a transparent resin layer 14, transparent electrodes 15 and an oriented film 16 atop the matrix and color filters. The color filters 13 of he above-mentioned device have microcapsules 17 which can blacken the color filters when irradiated with a laser beam. |
