PURPOSE:To attain the reduction in cost and to realize variable speed reproduction with good picture quality in a component recording system digital VTR suppressing the running cost by data compression technique. CONSTITUTION:The data compression processing of Cb signal data 15 and Cr signal data 16 is performed by one color difference signal data compression circuit 20, and a data compression system equalizing luminance signal compression data 19 and color difference signal compression data 20 is used. A field screen is divided into plural blocks Bmn, and data compression is performed in a block unit. A shuffling circuit 24 rearranges the blocks. Recording signal data 27 is constructed by the succession of synchronizing blocks SB. The synchronizing block SB contains the block B1 where the compression and shuffling is performed.
