A process for preparing the pancreatic lipase-inhibiting oxetanone ethyl esters of the general formula I <IMAGE> where C11 is undecyl, C6 is n-hexyl, Y is isobutyl, and Z is formyl, or Y is carbamoylmethyl and Z is acetyl, in which an oxetanone of the general formula I" <IMAGE> where C11, Y and C6 have the abovementioned meaning, is treated with an alkanoylating agent, which introduces the Z group.
