Active suspension for motor vehicle engine mounting - counters vibrations by electrically powered mechanical oscillating with mechanical amplification

The damper has two fluid chambers linked by membrane controlled flow apertures. A sensor (60) on the vibrating part of the mounting is linked to a processor (64) which generates the drive signals for the piezo-electric mounting for the membranes. The oscillating membranes control the hydraulic flow and can therefore counter the larger mechanical vibrations. The membranes control the low frequency large amplitude vibartions as well as the high frequency low amplitude ones. The required amplitude from the piezo elements is small, allowing a compact construction. ADVANTAGE - Civers large frequency/a,plitude range; compact construction.
