PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-graded image excellent in thermal stability and light resistance, by a method wherein a complex compound of a heat-transferrable dye and a metallic ion and a ligand exchanging agent are incorporated in a coloring material layer, while a recording sheet is laminated on the coloring material layer side of the recording medium, and the laminate is heated from the base side. CONSTITUTION:The recording sheet 4 is laminated on the coloring material layer 3 side of the thermal transfer recording medium, thermal energy is given to the laminate in accordance with image information by a thermal head 5 through a heating element 6 from the side of the base 1 of the recording medium, whereby a dye is transferred from the coloring material layer 3 onto the recording sheet 4 to produce a dye image 7. In this case, a complex compound of a heat-transferrable dye, e.g., 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol, and a metallic ion (e.g., Cu<2+> or Al<3+>) and a ligand exchanging agent (e.g., cysteine or EDTA) are incorporated in the coloring material layer, and the dye is thermally transferred. |
