The invention concerns a starting block for horses which can be attached to a vehicle's tow hook by way of a tow bar and which includes pivotable wings 6 arranged in such a way that when starting has taken place they pivot from their start position, oriented directly to the sides, to the direction of the two bar and are securely locked in this position. The tow bar comprises a part 9 which can be attached to the tow bar and a part 2 which is connected to the actual starting block, which parts have been coupled to each other so as to slide in each other. When the parts 2, 9 of the tow bar move in relation to each other, a transmission bar 4 has been arranged to convey the movement to the pivoted wing 6. Locking members 3, 8 have been arranged to lock the wing 6 securely in place when it has pivoted to the tow bar direction. <IMAGE>
