A method in X-ray diagnostics, particularly mammography, for the purpose of effecting an automatic exposure. In this method one uses a measuring signal MS, which is compared with a reference signal VS during the exposure time (t1-t0). When the measuring signal MS has reached the reference signal VS, the radiation is switched off. In this method one uses a reference signal VS which changes with time, which is determined with the aid of the initial value BV and the salient points A1...An and the slope between these. When new equipment settings and/or equipment are put into use, the said initial values BV and/or one or more of the said slopes A1..An are changed. <IMAGE>
