PURPOSE:To realize a small-size and light-weight car by reducing input torque which is given to an input member when a backward stage is set. CONSTITUTION:When a backward stage is set, gear change output an electrical signal to the predetermined solenoid valve in a hydraulic controller 7 in an automatic transmission A of electronic control type by engaging clutch means K3 and K5 and a band brake 42 of a brake means B1, and then outputs a command for reducing input torque. Since a torque which is given to the automatic transmission A from the engine E side is reduced, a torque which is applied to the clutch means K5 which fixes a carrier 2C of a second planetary gear mechanism 2 is also reduced. Consequently, the clutch means K5 is small- sized and can withstand sufficiently even if it has small capacity because input torque itself is small even if a torque which the clutch means K5 receives at the backward stage is several times of the input torque. |
