Waveguide laser with microwave excitation - has energy directed through guides and into gas discharge resonator chamber

The wave guide laser has a resonator chamber (12) formed by a pair of plates (34,32) that are produced of metal with a reflecting inner surface. Located at both ends of the chamber are mirrors, in the form of a convex mirror (14) and a concave mirror (16). The curved surfaces of the mirrors are offset such that a transmission path is formed (26) to generate an output from the system. The excitation energy is provided by a microwave source (42) that directs energy transversely onto the mirror unit via a conductor. ADVANTAGE - Cost effective excitation for laser.
