PURPOSE:To detect exactly the position of an underground excavating machine without being affected by the shape of a planned line, a counterforce generated in excavation, etc. by a method wherein a point to be set as a reference for detection of the position of the underground excavating machine under the ground is determined in the ground in front in the direction of excavation. CONSTITUTION:A layer of the ground in front of an underground excavating machine 1 in the direction of excavation is investigated by a physical means such as an underground radar and the result of investigation is plotted. This displayed image varies with an advance in excavation of the excavating machine 1, a specified point varying relatively in said displayed image is taken as a variation from a reference point set beforehand arbitrarily, and the absolute position of the excavating machine 1 under the ground is calculated therefrom by a data processing device 11. By comparing data at different times in the process of excavation, besides, a distance of movement of the excavating machine 1 is determined and the position of the excavating machine 1 under the ground can be determined directly therefrom. |
