The electromagnetic cable has an actuator stage formed with a coil (10) and armature (9) assembly. When the coil is energised the armature is displaced and a pin (8) moves to cause a valve poppet (5) to close relative to a seat (4) and so restrict flow from inlet (2) to outlet. The poppet is subjected to a return force provided by a spring that has a high stiffness section (12) and a low stiffness section (13). USE/ADVANTAGE - For controlling airflow in throttle valve bypass. Dual stiffness spring provides fine control of valve.
