The device of the invention serves to prearrange a plurality of wooden skewers, in each cycle, for skewering into a lump of meat or fish and/or of vegetables. It comprises a skewer container 16, a drawer 19 forming the bottom of the container and having a series of transverse grooves 21 capable of housing one and only one skewer, and means for moving the drawer 19 between a first position in which the grooves 21 are inside the container 16 and a second position in which they are outside it. The set of grooves 21 in the first position is separated from the front wall 18 of the container 16 so that the loading of skewers is dynamic. The device may further include a system for detecting a loading defect, as well as a system for detecting a blockage. It also offers the advantage of being able to be mounted in twin on a machine. <IMAGE>
