The circuit uses saturable core inductors and capacitors to shorten the pulse width of h.v. pulses fed to a load such as a carbon dioxide molecular laser. Such loads have an impedance which reduces rapidly as the voltage applied to it increases. The input voltage is applied (1, 2) to an input capacitor (C1). When a pulse is required, a thyristor switch (S1) connects the primary (WP1) of a saturable core transformer (T1) in parallel with the input capacitor. The secondary winding (WS1) is connected via a series capacitor (C2) to a parallel circuit consisting of a saturable core self-inductance (L4) and an output capacitor (C3). A variant of the circuit uses a series of LC T networks without a transformer, the inductances all being of the saturable core type.
|
