PURPOSE:To achieve an extended life of a sensor with a higher durability against SO2 by employing an ion conductive ceramic substrate and a porous thin film layer that is the mixture of an oxidation catalyst and a material of the same type as said substrate. CONSTITUTION:This sensor is made up of a stabilizing zirconia substrate 1, a platinum electrode 2 provided on the surface of the substrate 1 and a porous thin film layer 3 so arranged on the platinum electrode 2 to cover the electrode 2. For example, a platinum powder and a stabilizing zirconia powder are mixed at a rate of 1:9 and an organic solvent is added thereto to make the mixture paste. The paste thus obtained is applied on the platinum electrode 2 and baked at 1,300 deg.C for one hour to form a porous thin film layer 3. This achieves a higher durability of the sensor against SO2, thereby assuring an extended life of the sensor. |
