PURPOSE: To minimize power losses associated with a flywheel to the possible extent by engaging a radial bearing device with the outer peripheral surface of the flywheel mounted on a shaft. CONSTITUTION: A flywheel assembly 50 has a heavy metal disc 67. The disc 67 is received in an outer shell 68 formed by an inside diameter annular plate 70, a first end plate 72, a second end plate 74 and an outer peripheral plate 76. The outer peripheral plate 76 is used as a radial journal, and is substantially engaged with a radial bearing device 86. The radial bearing device 86 is formed by a plurality of radial bearing segments 87 arranged around the flywheel assembly 50. The radial bearing segments 87 are mounted on a casing 38 via precipitation hardening stainless steel pivot pins 88. |
